The Ultimate Ring Road
trip around Iceland
This is an example of our original Vanlife Iceland route. Drive the circle of Iceland together with like-minded people. We explore by day and gather around the bonfire at night by our camp. Book a van and join us for an unforgettable week among waterfalls, glaciers, hot springs and much much more.
DAY 1
Pick up your campervan and hit the road
Your adventure begins in Keflavik! After picking up your van, you’ll hit the road and head towards Iceland’s stunning south coast. There’s plenty of time to make your first stops along the way, from the Golden Circle to the relaxing Reykjadalur hot springs – a beautiful river where you can soak in warm water surrounded by nature. It’s the perfect introduction to the Icelandic landscapes and a gentle way to ease into life on the road.
Tonight, we’ll gather for our first campsite dinner by Skjól, just a 2 hour drive away. Expect a cozy evening under the stars with a BBQ, swapping stories from your journey so far. It’s the perfect way to connect with fellow vanlifers and kick off the week together.
Drive time: approx. 2.5 hours

DAY 2
South Coast Exploration
The south coast is packed with iconic sights! From the majestic Skógafoss and the hidden Kvernufoss waterfall to the dramatic Seljalandsfoss and Gljufrabui, you’ll have plenty of chances for Icelandic photography moments. If you fancy a swim, the historic Seljavallalaug pool offers a unique, off-the-beaten-path experience. Don’t forget to treat yourself to a cinnamon bun at a local bakery — trust us, it’s worth it.
The day continues with the wild beauty of the Dyrhólaey cliffs and the black sand beaches of Reynisfjara. We’ll end the day at Thakgil, a remote campsite surrounded by striking landscapes, where the quiet and stars make for a magical night of camping.
Drive time: approx. 3 hours

DAY 3
Glaciers & Icebergs
Today, we venture into the realm of glaciers and Vatnajökull National Park. Explore hidden canyons, glacial viewpoints, and striking landscapes on your way to Skaftafell, where the classic hike to Svartifoss waterfall awaits. For those who want to get closer to the ice, there’s the option of a glacier hike — a truly unforgettable experience with dramatic scenery and icy adventure.
The day blends adventure and awe, with plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs on scenic trails or simply admire the glaciers from a distance. Evening at Skaftafell offers a peaceful night under the northern sky, ready to recharge for tomorrow’s activities.
Drive time: approx. 2.5 hours

DAY 4
East Iceland Exploration
Wake up ready for a full day of natural wonders! You can start with a refreshing Arctic plunge or join us for a morning hike to Mulagljufur Canyon – a hidden gem often called “Narnia” for its magical landscapes. Later, the iconic glacier lagoon and Diamond Beach offer a stunning backdrop for lunch, photography, and reflection.
In the afternoon, it’s time to relax in the warm waters of Hoffel hot tubs, the perfect way to unwind after a morning of adventure. We’ll finish the day at Höfn, a lively coastal town with options to stock up on supplies, explore local cuisine, or enjoy a drink with the group at a local bar.
Drive time: approx. 2 hours

DAY 5
The Fjords
The journey continues through the dramatic East Fjords, with winding roads and sweeping coastal views. You can explore black sand beaches, charming fjord villages, or take a more relaxed day to soak in the scenery. Adventurous guests can continue along the fjord route, hikers can climb to Hengifoss waterfall, or those seeking a quieter pace can unwind at a local spa.
Our evening campsite, Hallormsstaður, sits next to a serene lake. It’s a perfect spot to reconnect with nature, enjoy a BBQ, and reflect on the week’s adventures so far.

DAY 6
Canyons in the North
Heading north, we explore Iceland’s unique volcanic landscapes around Lake Myvatn. Highlights include Studlagil Canyon’s striking basalt columns, bubbling geothermal areas, water-filled craters, and naturally heated springs. This is a day for photography, short hikes, and soaking in the otherworldly scenery of northern Iceland.
Optional relaxation at the Geosea spa provides a chance to unwind and enjoy the geothermal waters with a view. Camp nearby and settle in for a night under the northern lights or the vast Icelandic sky.
Drive time: approx. 3.5 hours

DAY 7
Whale Watching & Closing Dinner
Our final full day combines epic waterfalls and marine wildlife. You can choose to go whale watching in the morning before exploring Dettifoss, Selfoss, and the famous Godafoss waterfalls. Each stop offers a chance to marvel at Iceland’s raw power and natural beauty.
