Get to know Iceland
Is Iceland expensive, you ask?
The short answer is: yes.
The long answer is: yes, but you don’t have to be a millionaire to visit.
Whether Iceland is expensive or not depends on where you live
If you live in London or Tokyo, you might not feel that Iceland is horribly expensive. But if you live anywhere else you might be in for a little shock. Iceland is an increasingly popular destination for people all over the world. Nowadays, people can easily snatch up cheap flights with any of the low-budget airlines like WOW air or EasyJet. So, getting here doesn’t have to cost much, but unfortunately, other things like hotel accommodation and food are more expensive.
But why is Iceland so expensive?
The answer to the question of why Iceland is expensive is straightforward.
* Iceland is a cold island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
* Most products need to be imported
* Labor is expensive.
The biggest expense when traveling in Iceland
The biggest expense when traveling in Iceland is usually accommodation. For the past few years, an increase in tourism has caused hotel prices to soar. Not only are the prices high, but there’s a lack of availability in the most popular areas as well. Food prices are another issue. But those who want to save money can lower their food bill by shopping at the cheaper grocery stores. When it comes to eating out, you can go as cheap or as expensive as you like. Grab a hot dog or visit a Michelin star restaurant or anything in between.
Stretching your budget
When visiting Iceland, we feel that you can easily stretch your budget. Especially if you choose to rent a campervan over staying at hotels or guesthouses. That way you don’t have to book in advance and are free to roam the country on your own time. When you start looking at hotel prices, you´ll see what we mean by that.
